Our values awards winners
Our values awards highlight those who are demonstrating our values in an extraordinary way. Nominated by their colleagues, our winners truly deserved to be recognised.

Dynamic

Value award: dynamic
Winner: Anneka Patel
Programme manager - COVID-19, Centre for Guidelines

Anneka Patel, values awards winner
Anneka constantly adapts to changing priorities on a weekly and daily basis. She's willing to experiment and innovate, and has led on the implementation of a new digital solution, MAGICapp. Anneka has challenged both herself and others to embrace this radical change. In only 3 months since the tool has been adopted, there's been improvements to the tool and to our ways of working.
With a positive attitude, Anneka has enabled team mates to take managed risks and view the tool as an innovation opportunity. Most importantly, Anneka uses change as a chance to learn. She has established a process for capturing and sharing successes and failures. She has engaged and supported the whole team to approach change as an opportunity to improve and continuously reflect on our digital endeavours.
I feel very honoured to have won this award. I'm really lucky to work in such a dynamic team with colleagues who embrace change and take on innovative opportunities to improve. It makes my job that bit easier and much more enjoyable.

Collaborative

Value award: collaborative
Winner: Jonathan Simpson
Project manager, Centre for Health Technology Evaluation

Jonathan simpson, values awards winner
Jonathan has been instrumental in the project management of a recruitment campaign for health technology assessment analysts in the Centre for Health Technology Evaluation (CHTE). He has worked tirelessly to engage with leads from each of the 5 teams, explained the requirements, created workable timelines around commitments and delivered the project on time.
Jonathan also organised a virtual careers fayre event, which ran in May, with 120 attendees. He's built positive relationships with colleagues in HR, finance, digital, technology and information (DIT) and communications. He explored all available options to make both the event and the recruitment campaign a success.
This is a challenging project to deliver with tight deadlines, and Jonathan is on track to make it a great success. This is a credit to his efforts, especially given he is only 3 months into the role.
I'm humbly delighted to be selected as a values award winner. The recognition for the work is greatly appreciated. However, I do ascribe any of the project's successes to the many colleagues that I've worked with. Without them and their hard work, none of it would've been possible! At NICE, we're great at being collaborative and I'm proud to have played a part in those efforts.
Excellent

Value award: excellent
Winner: Nat Murray
Communications executive - internal and web, Communications Directorate

Nat Murray, values awards winner
Nat joined us towards the end of November 2020. It's no small feat for one person to take on the delivery of the internal communications service for an entire organisation. To do it while working virtually as well is nothing short of amazing.
Nat fit into the team straight away and immediately proved she has an excellent work ethic. She's picked everything up so quickly, building really positive relationships across all parts of NICE and producing excellent work.
In particular, she led on delivering the internal communications campaign for our values and behaviours, including developing all the internal assets, and the campaign has been a great success. Not bad for someone who's only been with us for 6 months! She's set the bar incredibly high for the next 6 and there's no doubt she can deliver!
Being involved in the values work is something I'm incredibly proud of and is something I strongly believe in. So, being recognised as a values winner feels very special. I definitely cannot take all the credit though. Having such an amazing and supportive team makes all the difference!

Inclusive

Value award: inclusive
Winner: Swapna Mistry
Project manager, Centre for Guidelines

Swapna Mistry, values awards winner
Swapna actively demonstrates all 7 of our values, but in particular she has been recognised for being 'inclusive'. She has helped new starters settle into the organisation, their team, and their role. She sees people as individuals with a set of skills and experience rather than a grade or job title.
In Swapna's eyes, everyone has equal value, regardless of role, background, or identity and she encourages those around her to build cross-institute relationships. She always values colleague input and encourages people to have a voice and confidence in their ability. She values others, offers support to others, will help anyone and always goes that extra mile.
I was truly surprised and very touched for being considered for this award. Over the years, I've had so much support from everyone and I love being part of such a diverse organisation. My interactions and collaborations with colleagues inspire me to do more and bring out the best in me.
Kind

Value award: kind
Winner: Marcela Haasova
Health technology assessment analyst, Centre for Health Technology Evaluation

Marcela Haasova, values awards winner
Since the start of the pandemic, Marcela's team has had a lot of new analysts and assistant analysts. Marcela recognised the need for these people to be able to meet other team members and support each other. To not feel isolated and to share experiences of starting in a new job in these unusual circumstances. She set up and runs a weekly new starter catch up meeting. The group also now includes analysts returning from maternity leave, and although many are no longer ‘new starters’ they still attend these catch ups.
It was particularly kind of Marcela to run these weekly sessions. Especially considering heavy individual and team workloads. It's really helped other analysts who were buddies to new starters to have a structure they could work with. For the new starters, this group has helped tremendously in settling into NICE and having somewhere to go to ask questions and learn from others.
Marcela has demonstrated the 'kind' value by setting up this peer support group. Which also promotes good first impressions and reinforces that we are a ‘kind’ organisation. We consider people’s experiences of working here rather than just meeting deadlines.
Just the fact that my colleagues have taken the time to nominate me for this award confirms how kind people here at NICE are!

Thank you to our nominators!
A big thank you to everyone who nominated a colleague for recognition in our values awards. The quality of nominations we received was outstanding. The scoring panel certainly had a difficult task in selecting our overall winners!
Although we received a high number of nominations overall, a number of our values categories received a very low number of submissions. So, we felt it would be fairer to carry these nominations over for consideration as part of our October values award selection.
Recognising our softer side
The nature of our work means that we tend to focus on measurable results and outcomes that can be written in figures on a chart. This can be a great way to tangibly show our colleague's achievements to reflect values such as 'dynamic' or 'excellent'.
But, do remember our softer values such as kindness, respectfulness and empowerment. How has a colleague's action made you 'feel'? What emotional impact does someone have on the team around them day to day? These values are equally as important but perhaps not as easy to measure.
It'd be fantastic to see the spread of nominations for our October awards reflect all of our values. Not only shouting about the amazing results our people deliver, but also the human impact we can have on the people around us.
Highly commended
Justine Karpuscheff, associate director - COVID-19, Centre for Guidelines
Deborah O'Callaghan, associate director - field team, Health and Social Care Directorate
Greg O'Toole, administrator, Science, Evidence and Analytics Directorate

Tomas Keating, health technology assessment analyst, Centre for Health Technology Evaluation
