Our values awards winners
October 2022
Our values awards highlight those who are demonstrating our values in an extraordinary way. Nominated by their colleagues, our winners truly deserve to be recognised.

Dynamic

Value award: dynamic
Winner: Lizzie Bell, health technology assessment adviser, in the technology appraisals team.

Lizzie Bell, values award winner
You'd be forgiven for thinking you were mistakenly reading July's values winners list. But no, Lizzie is in fact a second time values winner!
Lizzie has been recognised once again in our values category of 'dynamic', for her work on priority 2 - proportionate approach to technology appraisals (PATT).
"Lizzie has eagerly taken on the challenge of stream lead for one of the 6 strands of PATT work, as well as being a member of 2 other strands of work. PATT work is fast paced, agile and transformational and Lizzie has met these briefs and more!" reads Lizzie's nomination.
She is also praised for her ideas and 'dynamism', which are inspiring and uplifting to all other members of the team.
Well done Lizzie!

Collaborative

Peter Hough, values award winner
Peter Hough, values award winner
Value award: collaborative
Winner: Peter Hough, senior service delivery manager in the digital, information and technology governance and strategy team.

Peter Hough, values award winner
Congratulations to Pete Hough who has been recognised for his work leading the delivery team for the Digital Workplace programme.
Pete's colleagues tell us that collaboration is at the centre of everything he does. He drives common goals for the team, shares knowledge and helps cross cutting skills and understanding. He also puts users at the centre of all the decisions the team takes, communicating with the team with respect and keeping them motivated.
Despite his outstanding contributions, Pete remains very humble and perhaps does not realise the positive impact his ways of working have in his team! His nomination reads: "There are not many people who can bring together such different people and views to find the solution for NICE in such a way."
Excellent

Value award: excellent
Winner: Louise Jones, administrator in the technology appraisals team.
Our 'excellent' winner, Louise, has been highlighted by her colleagues for her integral administrative support for a recent high profile COVID-19 topic. As part of her work, Louise identified issues and looked ahead for unforeseen problems. She asked the right questions which helped to steer the task in the right direction, making sure the scoping consultation was sent out on time to the right people.
“I can honestly say that Louise is the most diligent, thorough, and concise administrator that I have worked with," says the colleague who nominated Louise. "She does not miss a thing. It is so refreshing to work with someone who genuinely cares and looks at the bigger picture to join the dots."
Phrases such as 'works incredibly hard', 'invaluable within our team' and 'a genuinely lovely person' also feature. Well done Louise, all your hard work is recognised and appreciated!

Kind

Gwen Fahy, values award winner
Gwen Fahy, values award winner
Value award: kind
Winner: Gwen Fahy, project manager in the engagement and directorate support team.
Gwen shows her kindness and how much she cares about her team in many ways. One of which is the enormous amount of work she puts in to make appraisals a meaningful and positive experience.
To quote one of her team: “I’ve never experienced such a level of commitment to an appraisal and my development.” Gwen spends time gathering feedback from colleagues her team work with, including senior managers. This immediately helps her team appreciate the impact they have on the wider organisation.
Gwen also devotes time and effort to working with managers across NICE, looking for development opportunities that suit her team members’ skills and interests. This encourages her team to think about their strengths, reflect on ways they could develop further and most importantly, to be proud of their achievements. A perfect example of our 'kind' value.
Inclusive

Value award: inclusive
Winner: Portia Dodds, project services coordinator in the life sciences team and co vice chair for the disability advocacy and wellbeing network (DAWN).
Portia’s continued work on behalf of DAWN over this past 12 months has been a true reflection of our NICE values. Her kindness has driven the work of the network.
Her attentiveness to the needs of others at NICE has led her to take the lead on the 'quiet and calm office' initiative. This aims to make the office more inclusive, welcoming, and supportive to all staff.
During staff network meetings, Portia acts with empathy and consideration to all, and is supportive to the needs, asks and thoughts of all members. Her colleagues and fellow network members find her a pleasure to work with.
Great work Portia!

Empowered

Aimee Burford, values award winner
Aimee Burford, values award winner
Value award: empowered
Winner: Aimee Burford, facilities administrator in the facilities team.
Aimee has worked at NICE for over 5 years and has a wealth of knowledge, skills, and experience - which she is always willing to share. There have been many changes in the facilities team over recent months but throughout, Aimee has been the constant.
Her team call her the 'oracle' on how the office works and the processes in place to keep it running. Aimee is the 'go-to' person and if the team need to know something, 'ask Aimee, she will know' is a common catchphrase.
Aimee uses her experience to speak up when something could work better and takes ownership of everything she does. She is a highly trusted member of the team, fully empowered to step up and do the right thing.
An example of this was when the access card system and automatic doors in the Manchester office failed. Aimee dealt with the situation calmly and with dedication. She stayed on site late into the evening to deal with the issue. Aimee is an invaluable member of the team and embodies the value of empowerment.
